Breast Cancer Facts, 10/31

We survived. We got through Breast Cancer Awareness month. October aka Pinktober aka Crooktober aka Stinktober is my least favorite month of the year. Why? Because it isn’t helpful to us who are living with Stage IV and then it ends and no one pays attention any longer.

Living with Stage IV metastatic breast cancer is a 24/7, 365 day per year experience. Those of us living with it never get a day off and it only ends when we’re dead. Think about that. Don’t stop paying attention just because one month is over.

  1. Thank you for these posts. I have found them uncomfortable, empowering, interesting, educational…I hope that was what you had in mind! It’s good to read about somebody else’s experiences, and it’s good to get away from the “I beat cancer” narrative. I haven’t been sure what to call myself. I’m not a victim, I’m not a survivor, I’m not brave, I’m not inspirational, I’m just getting on with it.

  2. Reading your daily blog has been both educational and sobering… and the best part of this October. I appreciate the research and effort you put into these posts. I learned a lot, and shared a lot. Thank you.

  3. Abigail, I commend you on your tenacity and commitment to keep posting these facts every day. I lost steam with my efforts as I found the process of sharing them weighed on me more and more. I had to take a break for my own mental health. Thank you for all the work you did this month and will continue to do to advocate for metastatic breast cancer.

  4. My dear wife was recently diagnosed with invasive ductal carcinoma and will soon be undergoing a double mastectomy. I appreciate reading your story, it helps to gain any and all types of knowledge. With my wife’s permission, I began documenting her/our journey with breast cancer on my blog under the No Hill For a Climber menu. If it was not ok to share my blog link here, please delete it when you edit my comment.
