BCAM 2021: Day #13 a/k/a US National Metastatic Breast Cancer Awareness Day

I always chuckle a little at the irony of choosing the 13th day of October as the day to recognize the only Stage of Breast Cancer that is terminal. Once we get to Stage IV, that’s it, the cancer will be the cause of our death and only a lucky few live long lifespans with Metastatic Breast Cancer. But, I suppose we should be happy that we are recognized at all.

For another take on the number 13, check out my friend, Kristie’s blog post here, on the history and positive connotations of the number.

Tonight, as I did last year, I’ll be participating in the the #LightUpMBC live event, which highlights MBC by arranging for landmarks to light up in the Metavivor colors. We will be celebrating stories, listening to special guests, and generally having a raucous good time celebrating some awareness focused on us, those who are actively living while dying.
